Police Officer Who Shot Late Corps Member, Linda Igwetu Arrested
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a police officer, Benjamin Peter who shot a youth corps member, Linda Igwetu leading to her death, Wednesday morning. Investigation has commenced to unveil what actually led to the shooting and death of the 22-year-old, who was shot while driving with two of her colleagues around Ceddi Plaza, Central Business District, Abuja. The deceased was to pass out from her one-year national service on Thursday. It was gathered that investigators would ascertain Peters’ claim that he heard a shout for help before firing the fatal shot that claimed Igwetu’s life. The police also confirmed that the driver and the other occupants of the car would be interrogated to explain why he didn’t stop to be searched. The deceased’s sibling, Chinenye has equally alleged that the police had not formally informed the family why Igwetu was shot dead by the trigger-happy policeman.
List of Nigerian States owing their workers salary
A survey by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in the North Central zone has revealed that state governments still owe workers in spite of the bailout funds provided by the Federal Government. The survey also found that all debt-ravaged states that collected the Federal Government intervention fund as well as the Paris Club loan refund still owe some categories of workers salary arrears. In Benue, for example, NAN learnt that the state government owes state and local government workers seven months and 10 months’ salary arrears respectively. They were said to have received salaries last in May 2017 and February 2017. Sources at the state Ministry of Finance indicated that the state government had received N12.5 million and N6.8 billion in the first and second instalments of the Paris Club refund. Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue blamed government’s inability to settle workers’ salaries on huge wage bill, which he said was “too weighty” for the resources available to the state. Or...
