Fg recruiting 7,500 graduates as tax officers
The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has disclosed that federal government is currently recruiting 7,500 graduates as Community Tax Liaison Officers (CTLOs) to raise tax awareness among citizens. According to her, the recruits would be expected to go to schools, churches, mosques, markets and other social places to educate people on the tax system and let them know their obligations. She made this known in Abuja at a joint press briefing with the Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, BabaTunde Fowler, on Thursday. Adeosun said that through this initiative, the government is expected to increase the number of taxpayers by 35 percent; ie from 14 million to about 17 million in two years. The Finance Minister added that graduates of accounting, economics, mathematics and other relevant courses would be given priority under the programme.
